“Our Mission

The Ligonier Highland Games promotes interest in and appreciation of ancient Scottish traditions and heritage. We work to preserve Gaelic arts and culture through education, competitions, public displays, and dedicated scholarships for Highland dancing, fiddling, harping, piping, and drumming.

Real Impact, 100% Volunteer Run

Over $250,000 Awarded: Over our 60+ year history, we have granted more than a quarter-million dollars in scholarships across multiple disciplines.
Every Dollar Counts: The Games is the main fundraising event for the Clan Donald Educational and Charitable Trust (a 501c3 non-profit). Donations are completely tax-deductible.
Driven by Passion: We have zero paid staff or officers. Our entire team is made up of dedicated volunteers—many of whom have been working the Games for decades and travel long distances at their own expense—all out of a shared love for preserving Scottish heritage.

Our History

The Ligonier Highland Games has been held annually since 1959, originally starting as the “Scottish Picnic” at Kennywood Park. With the generous support of the MacDonald family, the Games moved to Idlewild Park in 1973 and has since grown into a massive landmark annual event in Ligonier.”
